• The contractor completed the following activities for this week as a part of phase 2 demolition: continued protection shield installation and demolition of the remaining columns over crash walls at pier 1 and pier 2; started preparing and assembling the column forms for piers 1 and 2. PEPCO was on site removing the existing wood poles from the 8th and Monroe Street intersection. One lane of traffic on eastbound Monroe Street NE Bridge was closed on Monday, February 25th until Thursday, February 28th from 11:00 pm until 5:00 am in order to complete work related to this project.

• Signs directing motorist and bicyclist have been posted. Please stay alert and obey signage when traveling through this area.

• The contractor completed the following activities for this week as a part of phase 2 demolition: continued demolition of the existing abutments backwall and approach slab in preparation to construct the proposed abutment seat and backwall; started saw cutting and removing the pier 1 cap. The removal of both pier 1 and pier 2 caps and columns has been completed. One lane of traffic on eastbound Monroe Street NE Bridge was closed on Monday, February 18th until Saturday, February 23rd from 11:00 pm until 5:00 am in order to complete work related to this project.

• The contractor completed the following activities for this week: continued phase 2 demolition (including the demolition of existing abutments backwall and approach slab) and started saw cutting and removing pier 2 cap. DDOT put the traffic signals at Monroe Street & 8th Street NE intersection in operation mode. All scheduled construction actvities were canceled for Monday, February 11th due to inclement weather. One lane of traffic on eastbound Monroe Street NE Bridge was closed on Tuesday, February 12th until Saturday, February 16th from 11:00 pm until 5:00 am in order to complete work related to this project.

• The contractor completed the following activities for this week: continued phase 2 demolition preparation for span 2 over WMATA, including the set up of the Maintenance of Traffic (MOT); continued to chip grout from the joints between the existing box beam girders; installed lifting hooks in preparation for the removal of the existing girders; placed the cranes and removed box girders from span 2 over WMATA; and continued demolition of exising abutments backwall and approach slab. DDOT put traffic signals at Monroe Street & 8th Street NE intersection on flashing mode. One lane of traffic on eastbound Monroe Street NE Bridge was closed on Friday, February 8th from 9:00 pm until 5:30 am in order to complete work related to this project.
