(There was no construction activity completed on Saturday, February 2nd)

  • The contractor completed the following activities for this week: continued phase 2 demolition preparation for span 2 over WMATA including mobilizing the crane and the set up of the Maintenance of Traffic (MOT); completed the removal of concrete box beams (spans 1 & 3); measured WMATA equipment beneath span 2 to construct protective housing for use during concrete box beam removal; and continued to chip grout from the joints in between the existing box beam girders and installed the lifting hooks in preparation for the removal of the existing girders. WGL’s contractor completed placing temporary asphalt over the 4” temporary bypass pipe trenches on Monroe Street Bridge (eastbound and westbound lanes). One lane of traffic on eastbound Monroe Street NE Bridge was closed on Tuesday, January 29 and Wednesday, January 30 from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am in order to complete some of these activities.

  • WGL’s contractor completed the following activities for this week: continued the 4” temporary bypass pipe installation along the north side; started connecting the 4” bypass to the 12” gas main at the bridge approaches; put the 4” temporary bypass in service and disconnected the 12” main at both ends of the bridge; and installed valve manholes. On Saturday, January 26th, the contractor removed the 12” gas main from the bridge on the south side. The westbound lane of traffic was closed on Sunday, January 20th to Tuesday, January 22nd from 9:30 am 5:30 pm while WGL completed the gas main installation.

Sunday, January 13 – Saturday, January 19, 2019: Project Updates
(There was no construction activity completed on Sunday, January 13th or Monday, January 14)

  • Due to snow, there was no work performed on Monday January 14th. The contractor cleared the snow on the sidewalk (north side of the bridge). The constractor started forming and preparation work for the temporary bridge foundation for WGL 12” main and continued prep work by pouring concrete for temporary utility support (south side, Phase 2). WGL’s contractor completed pressure testing and started prep work for 4” temporary bypass installation. The westbound lane of traffic was closed on Saturday, January 19th from 9:30 am 5:30 pm to complete these activities.

(There was no construction activity completed on Sunday, January 6th or Saturday, January 12th)

  • The contractor has partially suspended bridge demolition work while WGL Energy completes all activity. The constractor continued prep work for gas main removal on the south side of the bridge (i.e. began removal of formwork and continued to chip concrete around the collar of the gas main at the east abutment) while Miller Pipeline continued with welding installation of the gauge connector at the gas main line (east approach); and welding fittings in preparation for capping and disconnect. There were no lane closures needed to complete these activities. Traffic was maintained with two open-lanes, eastbound and westbound.

(There was no construction activity completed on Monday, December 31st or Tuesday, January 1st due to the New Year’s Day Holiday.)

  • The contractor has partially suspended bridge demolition work while WGL Energy completes all activity: Miller Pipeline was on site and continued excavating the trench (east and west approach), installing shoring box, prepared work for capping of exsting gas main and installed gauge connector at gas main. Verizon was on site to remove existing abandoned cable and ductbank from the WGL trenches. Comcast crews were on site at the east end of the bridge to verify existing abandoned cable. There were no lane closures needed to complete these activities. Traffic was maintained with two open-lanes, eastbound and westbound.
